The History of Pathology & Oncology Research

In the mid-1990s, four members of the Arányi Lajos Foundation – László Kopper, József Timár, Zsolt Orosz and Judit Nagy – decided to create a journal helping Hungarian scientists to get much closer to the international activities in two areas: pathology and oncology. Obviously, the journal should be in English and be managed efficiently. The founders shared a dream together with Arányi and the name Pathology & Oncology Research was formed. Arányi Lajos is the father of pathology in Hungary. Coming back from Vienna in 1844, he established pathology at Pazmany University as a new discipline, among the firsts in Europe, and kept alive from his own pocket. Years passed and POR did what was promised. Thanks to some pharmaceutical companies and friends, many of them served as members of the Editorial Board. Appreciation could be measured by the steadily increasing number of good manuscripts, and a prize given by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The big jump in the life of POR occurred when a partnership was offered by Springer. During the years the volumes went continued and POR accumulated more and more knowledge about how to survive and progress in this global game of science. Now, POR is ready to continue to contribute to the portfolio of Springer Nature.
